Steven Terner, Ph.D.

Dr. Steven Terner's academic background includes an MA in Middle East Studies, an MA in Government, and a PhD in Contemporary Middle East History. In addition to more than 15 years of professional experience, he has built an expansive network of contacts in business, journalism, government, and academia across the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Select professional achievements include:

  • Assisting diplomats at the Indian Embassy in Israel in setting up a Special Project Office

  • Covering the Arab Spring uprisings as a Breaking News Editor at the Jerusalem Post.

  • Conducting research for the Atlantic Council, Hudson Institute, Middle East Forum, and The Washington Institute think tanks in Washington, DC.

  • Membership in the Carnegie New Leaders Program at the Carnegie Council and the Middle East New Leaders Symposium at The Brookings Institution.

Dr. Terner frequently writes and publishes articles on Middle Eastern political economics and United States foreign policy in the Middle East. These include an article about Iranian hopes to skirt economic sanctions via a potential Chinese-Russian SWIFT alternative system, published by The Washington Institute, and an article about how the US could increase regional influence by facilitating the influx of humanitarian aid through the Yarubiya border crossing in Northeast Syria, published by Fair Observer. He also publishes newsletters on Iranian Political Economic News and Israeli Political Economic News.

Dr. Terner speaks fluent Hebrew, conversational Persian, and is working on Kurdish and Arabic.
